Speed Project

Due Date: May 1, 2008

Students will work in pairs to design an imovie where one student videotapes another student running for 20 feet. From the video, students will find the rate, in feet per second, the student travels in 20 feet. The students will present the video to the class where each class member will record the rate they found on the board. From here, we will graph the results to see the different rates determined in the experiment. Students will be graded on presentation and mathematical accuracy. The project will be worth 40 points. Since this is a group project, I will give you the next month to work on this assignment. It will be due May 1, 2008.

Standard this project satisfies:
The student knows, explains, and uses ratios and proportions to describe rates of change, e.g., miles per gallon, meters per second, calories per ounce, or rise over run.
